About the Author

Olena Boryshpolets is a poet, writer, journalist, actress, and cultural organizer originally from Odesa, Ukraine. Known for her vivid voice and interdisciplinary artistic work, she is the author of the short story collection Ukrainian Detox and the poetry book Orpheus and Eurydice in New York. She is a member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, a co-founder of the arts nonprofit Creativity Without Borders, and a member of PEN America.

Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Boryshpolets relocated to Poland, where she performed in the Polish-Ukrainian theatrical production Life in Case of War. In 2023 she arrived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she currently serves as a Research Scholar at the University of Pittsburgh and a Writer-in-Residence through the City of Asylum Fellowship for Ukrainian Writers. Though far from home, she continues to carry the spirit and cultural memory of Odesa into her work.

This Ukrainian poetry chapbook offers a unique bilingual presentation of contemporary Ukrainian literature, featuring the original poem by Olena Boryshpolets alongside a finely rendered English translation by Oleksandr Frazé-Frazénko. Published by Lefty Blondie Press in a limited edition of just 250 hand-numbered copies, this softcover chapbook is crafted with hand-trimmed and hand-bound detail, making every copy one-of-a-kind. A meaningful piece for readers interested in Ukrainian culture, Slavic poetry, literary translation, and independent bookmaking.
